Our History
Welcome to our passion brought to life. The Somerset Schoolhouse District 78 was built in 1920 and contains within its walls a rich history. We are Jimmy & Lesli Baker and welcome you to our home away from home.

Why do we hold this charming Schoolhouse so close to our hearts? Lesli's grandparents attended this one-room Schoolhouse in the 1920s (Lester Town and Fern Taylor), and her father (Lester Town Jr.) attended in the 1940s along with his brothers Winton and Michael Town. In addition, Lesli's parents met at a school dance in this very building in 1958 and still reside across the street. Lesli, her siblings, and her cousins all grew up in the small town of Somerset, Kansas.
There have been many memories shared with us since purchasing this endearing Schoolhouse but the one thing that was impressed upon us the most was that this was a place of community. In addition to being a school for the children, the town held penny suppers, dances, and fundraisers. This too is our wish for this charming schoolhouse. Our desire is that the Schoolhouse becomes a place of community again. Come shop, sit, relax, have a cold drink, meet someone new, and enjoy each other's company. Just know that you are always welcome at the Schoolhouse.
